The Rhubarb Triangle
The Rhubarb Triangle is an area in West Yorkshire famous for growing forced rhubarb. Parr’s photographs capture all aspects of the rhubarb business, from the back-breaking work of moving the rhubarb from field to shed, the freezing cold and exhausting labour of picking the vegetable by candlelight and the consumption of the rhubarb by coach parties and food tourists. The work was commissioned by the Hepworth Wakefield and was recently on show there. The work will be shown at Firstsite in Colchester from July 2016.
Alongside the show, the Hepworth Wakefiled published a book, The Rhubarb Triangle which includes an essay by Susie Parr and is available here.
